Pharos Printing - Initial Set up

Summary

The following document is to walk you through the first-time setup of your GCC ID Badge to Pharos secure printing.   

Before You Start

This process is just the initial set up and this is what you will need to proceed.

  • GCC ID Badge with RFID Chip
    • If you have an older badge you can get a new one from the Student Union
  • Scrap Paper and pen/pencil
  • Access to campus owned computer that is on network

Steps 

Step 1

Skip to step 2 if you already see the Pharos Setup Below.

To initiate the Pharos Print Set up you need to either print to a “Pharos Secure Print” printer or Print a test page by going to:

  • ‘windows key’ on your keyboard
  • Type the word ‘Print” in the dialogue box that appear.
  • Choose the ‘Pharos Secure Print’
  • Click on ‘Print Test Page’

Once you receive this setup box Click ‘Login to Continue’

Step 3

Login with your NetID@genesee.edu and password

Step 4

Write down the pin number shown on your screen on scrap paper. You will need it to link Pharos to your GCC ID Badge (Number below is an example) and click ‘Continue’

Click on the middle icon for ‘Proximity Card’

Click on Proximity Card

Step 6

Click on ‘Start’

Click Start

Step 7

Click on ‘Next’

Click Next

 

Step 8

Click ‘Finish.’ You will now need to proceed to a Pharos Secure Printer to complete this setup. There is a public printer in the hallway next to the Helpdesk in T212

Click Finish

 

Step 9

Touch your ID Badge to the marked area on the printer. You should hear a beep and the screen will change.

Step 10

Enter the Passcode you wrote down on scrap paper. Cand Touch OK when done

Enter Passcode / Pharos Pin Number

 

 

Press OK

Step 12

Press the ‘Register’ Button

Step 13

This screen is what will now appear every time you Badge Into Secure Printer. 

  • ‘Print All’ – Will print all documents in your queue
  • ‘Review Documents’ – Will allow you to review/delete/print documents individually.
  • ‘Scan Document’ – Scan to email or One Drive (See Scanning to One Drive for extra setup instruction)
  • ‘More  Device Functions’ – Brings you to printer specific functions such as COPY, FAX, or JOB STATUS

Sign out before leaving the printer.

Additional Resources

  • If you forget your Badge, you can always use the PIN number to log into a printer. If you forget your PIN, you can easily make a new one using this document (Reset your Pharos Printing Pin)
  • Toshiba Printers – Log you off automatically after 3 minutes
  • HP Printers – Will Log you off after 30 seconds of no interaction with the touch screen
  • Print jobs will remain in your queue for 72hrs. You can batch print jobs and pickup at your convenience all at once.
  • Printer Defaults are grayscale and double-sided and will feed from the default high-capacity tray.  Utilize ‘Printer Options’ on your computer before sending the job to the print queue
  • Paper Refill – Printers are in or near a specific department. While paper ordering may be the job of that department, the person printing the job is the one responsible for filling the tray should it require it.
  • Paper Jams – Paper jams can occur, do your best to follow on screen instructions to clear them. If the error isn’t clearing open a HelpDesk Ticket for support.
  • Toner Orders – These printers are actively monitored, and toner will be shipped out before replacement is needed.  Should you require emergency toner please Open a HelpDesk Ticket.
