Adobe Acrobat License Expired Message

Summary

This article describes steps to take to address license expired errors when attempting to use Adobe Acrobat

Body

Problem:

When attempting to perform activities such as creating, editing or merging PDF files, a message stating that the your license has expired or that the you do not have a license for the application is displayed.

Cause:

One of the following scenarios likely applies:

  1. Your laptop was recently re-imaged
  2. Your license authorization needs to be refreshed
  3. You are not a member of the Active Directory (AD) group that has been granted access to Acrobat

Solution:

Follow the steps below to activate / reactivate your license

  1. Go to the Adobe website
  2. Sign-in with your GCC email address and network password
  3. A list of the applications to which your license entitles you will be displayed

The Acrobat application is listed and available to you

If Acrobat is already installed on your computer, you may simply resume your activities in the desktop application. If not, you will need to open a Service Request to have the application installed for you. However, you may use the online version while waiting so as to minimize work disruption.

The Acrobat application is not listed

This indicates that you are not in the AD group that has been granted access to Acrobat licenses. If your job function requires you to create, edit (not just signing), or merge PDF files, you will need to create a License Request for Premium Software Applications. Please read the Who Is Eligible to Use It and Where Can I Get It sections; if you meet the criteria, proceed to Request Service. The ticket will be forwarded to your direct supervisor or department head for approval.

NOTE: Acrobat Express is available to all GCC account holders at no additional cost. It enables ALL basic PDF functionality such as reading, signing, annotating and highlighting PDF files. Due to cost constraints, only a limited number of Acrobat licenses are available. Therefore, licenses will only be granted to those with a demonstrated business need -- supervisor or department head approval will be required. In cases where only occasional use is needed, a license may be provisioned for a limited time then revoked so that it may be provisioned to another individual.

If approved, you will be added to the appropriate AD group. It will take 30-60 minutes for activation. You may then complete the steps listed under Solution above to access and use the application.

NOTE: Acrobat has changed the naming of its application packages and this has created confusion for long-time users. For example, Acrobat DC Pro is now simply Acrobat. It retains all of the previous functionality, but some feature layouts may vary from previous versions.
