This guide provides steps to properly dispose of acceptable e-waste items through a helpdesk system, ensuring they are handled in an eco-friendly manner.

Before You Start

Before disposing of any electronic items, confirm whether they fall under the category of acceptable e-waste listed below. Items on the not-acceptable list should not be submitted for pickup as they require different disposal methods through a facilities work order request. Proper identification helps in efficient recycling and prevents potential harm to the environment.

  • Household hazardous waste  
  • Large appliances (stoves, washers, dryers, dishwashers, microwaves) 

Steps 

  1. Identify E-Waste: Review your electronic items against the acceptable e-waste list provided.
  2. Prepare Items for Pickup:
    1. Remove any personal data from devices.
    2. Group similar items together.
    3. Ensure that all items are free from non-electronic waste.
  3. Submit a Helpdesk Ticket:
    1. Go to the helpdesk system.
    2. Provide a detailed list of items for disposal.
    3. Choose a suitable time for pickup, if applicable.
  4. Secure Items for Pickup:
    1. Place items in an accessible location.
    2. Label them clearly as e-waste for pickup.
  5. Follow Up: If items are not picked up as scheduled, contact the helpdesk to confirm the pickup time.
