Summary
In the interest of security and simplicity in the classroom, VR headsets for classroom use are set up in "Shared Mode". Headsets with this setup do not require any login in order to operate, but require a different process for purchasing applications. This article will run through the process of adding applications to classroom VR headsets.
Before You Start
- This is for VR Headsets in classrooms managed by ITS. We do not manage personally owned headsets.
- If you would like to use VR Technology in your program and do not have headsets, email MATS@genesee.edu to get started with a plan.
- Due to the function of "Shared Mode", we must be in contact with companies directly in order to gain access to requested applications. Any items purchased on the Meta App Store in "Individual Mode" will not be retained in "Shared Mode".
- MATS can assist with demos, vendors, and application suggestions, but we will not install applications unless requested.
Steps
- New headsets will start as a clean slate in "Shared Mode". There is no access to any apps or the app store. We recommend searching the web for class-appropriate applications.
- Since applications are installed remotely, you are welcome to sign out your assigned headsets at any time after their assembly and setup on campus.
- If you would like to try out applications on the Meta App Store, we can place one or more headsets in "Individual Mode". This is attached to your GCC e-mail account, and you will be responsible for any purchases that you make on the Meta App Store unless otherwise discussed and agreed upon. This mode can be switched at any time.
- When you have an idea of what functions and/or applications you would like on your assigned VR Headsets, Click "Request Service" or go to our Service Catalog to find the appropriate form.
- We will reach out with updates, resources, and any meeting requests.
