Print Smart with Mono and Double-Sided Print Jobs

Summary

This tutorial will guide you through the steps to adjust print settings on a per-job basis in Windows, enabling mono/gray scale and double-sided printing as needed. This method is useful when you need to apply these changes occasionally without modifying the default settings.

Before You Start

This tutorial is specifically designed for printers that support color and/or double-sided printing. If you're unsure whether your printer has these capabilities, please refer to your printer's manual or the manufacturer's website for accurate information.

Steps

Changing to Mono/Gray Scale Printing per Print Job

  1. Open the document you wish to print, then navigate to 'File' > 'Print'.

  2. Once the 'Print' dialog box opens, select the printer you want to use.

  3. Click 'Printer Properties', 'Properties', or 'Preferences' beneath the printer selection (the wording may vary depending on your version of Windows).

  4. In the 'Printer Properties' or 'Printing Preferences' window, locate the 'Color' settings. This can vary depending on your printer's make and model.

  5. Select 'Black and White' or 'Grayscale', depending on what options are available.

  6. Click 'OK' to close this window and apply the changes for the current print job.

Setting up Double-Sided Printing per Print Job

  1. As with the previous section, start by navigating to 'File' > 'Print' in the document you want to print.

  2. Select your printer from the list, then click 'Printer Properties', 'Properties', or 'Preferences'.

  3. Find the 'Double-Sided Printing', 'Duplex Printing', or 'Print on Both Sides' settings.

  4. Enable this feature by checking the box or selecting the option.

  5. If you have the option, choose 'Long-Edge Binding' for regular double-sided documents.

  6. Click 'OK' to close the window and apply these settings for the current print job.

After setting these options, you can proceed with your print job. These settings will only apply to the current document you are printing and won't affect your global or default printing settings which are set by your system administrator.
