Report Phishing and Junk Emails

Summary

Phishing or junk emails can pose security risks, and it's crucial to address them appropriately. In this tutorial, we'll be discussing the steps to report phishing or junk emails in Microsoft Outlook using your NetID@genesee.edu Microsoft login. Reporting these emails not only helps protect your account but also contributes to improving the security mechanisms in place to prevent such threats in the future.

Before You Start

To begin, ensure you have the following:

  1. Active GCC Account: Your NetID@genesee.edu is your key to access the Microsoft Outlook platform. Make sure it's active and you remember the password.
  2. Access to Microsoft Outlook: You should be able to access your Outlook account where the phishing or junk email has been received.
  3. Phishing or Junk Email: Identify the suspicious email you wish to report. Do not open any links or download any attachments from such an email, as it might compromise your data.

Steps 

  1. Log into your Microsoft Outlook account:
    1. Open your web browser and got to  https://mygcc.genesee.edu and click on the "waffle" icon and go to Outlook or open our Outlook Desktop App
    2. Enter your NetID@genesee.edu in the username/email field.
    3. Click next and enter your password to login.
  2. Navigate to the suspicious email:

    1. Open your inbox and locate the suspicious email.
    2. Be careful not to click any links or download any attachments in the email.
  3. Report the email:
    1. Select the email but don't open it.
    2. Once selected, navigate to the top menu of your inbox.
    3. Click on the “Report Icon"

  4. Confirm your report:

    1. Click on “report”
  5. Delete the email:
    1. After reporting the email, it's safe to delete it.
    2. Right-click the email, then select "Delete" from the dropdown list.
