Operating Classroom-Configured VR Headsets

Summary

For security and simplicity, VR Headsets for the classroom are set up in "Shared Mode" by default. This is a guide on operating headsets in "Shared Mode".

Before You Start

  • This guide is for VR Headsets owned by GCC and managed by MATS. We do not manage personal devices.
  • If you have arranged for headsets to be set up in "Individual Mode", this does not apply.

Steps

  1. Lift the elastic strap up and away from the rest of the headset. The "arms" on the sides rotate; that is normal.

  2. If you wear glasses, look inside the headset before putting it on. There are two buttons inside the black area on either side. Hold each of these buttons down and adjust the depth of the headset to fit your needs. You do not need to take off your glasses in most cases.

  3. Press the black cloth area of the headset to your face, notch side down, and then pull the elastic strap over your head. Adjust strap as needed.

  4. On the outer left side of the headset, there is a small button. If the headset is not on, press that button until you start to see light.

  5. The headset will run you through any needed adjustments. If one or both hand controllers refuse to respond, they may have gotten switched with another headset or ran out of battery.

  6. The headset will ask for a "Session Passcode" if set up with the option. This passcode is unique to each session and created by the user; you do not have to remember it once you have ended your session. This allows you to take a break if needed without losing your progress.

  7. Once you have set a "Session Passcode" if applicable, you will see a menu with all apps available in grid view. If you do not see this menu, turn around; it may be "behind" you.

  8. When you are done with your session, press the concave button on the right-hand controller () to open the menu, point to the red button, and press the right-hand trigger to end the session.

  9. Any time you have finished with class or a session, place the headset back on a loading dock. Ensure that the magnet to charge the headset is connected, and the hand controllers have "clicked" into place.
