Summary
AV contractors performing installation and/or repair of any GCC-owned AV equipment, cabling, or systems are required to follow and meet a number of guidelines for safety and compliance purposes.
Before You Start
GCC staff will provide prospective and selected AV contractors with these guidelines prior to them starting any work and at job completion before being released.
GCC GUIDELINES FOR CONTRACTORS
All work that requires access to above ceiling spaces, penetrations through walls, ceilings, floors, etc. requires pre-approval of the Buildings and Grounds Department.
Required information:
- The areas of the college that will be affected by the work will be identified
- Ceiling tiles that need to be removed in support of the work will be identified
- All penetrations through walls, ceilings, floors will be identified
- All penetrations through walls, ceilings, and floors require prior environmental approval before the work starts
- Location of equipment, mounting systems will be identified
- Walls, ceilings, floors that will receive fastening devices require prior environmental approval
All work shall comply with the following:
- All penetrations in walls, ceilings, and floors will be properly fire-stopped, no exceptions
- Wall penetrations shall not go through fire gates
- Cables and wires not in conduit will be plenum rated, preapproved by Facilities and Network & Telecommunications
- All conduit, pipes, and cables shall be properly hung and supported above the ceiling, and they will not be left directly on top of the ceiling grid or tiles in the interstitial space. Conduit, pipes, and cables will not interfere with access to or operation of existing systems above the ceiling. Conduit, pipes, and cables will not involve removing or repositioning ceiling tiles without explicit permission from Facilities.
- All completed work shall be inspected and approved by a Facilities representative before final acceptance of work
Steps
- GCC staff member provides contractor with the guidelines (see attachment) and obtains written acknowledgement
- GCC staff member arranges for Facilities to consult with contractor before formal work begins
- GCC staff member monitors contractor work to ensure compliance with guidelines
- GCC staff member arranges for Facilities to verify that work performed meets guidelines
