Updating Adobe Acrobat Signature

Summary

In this tutorial, you will be guided through the process of updating your signature in Adobe Acrobat

Before You Start

To get started, ensure that you have the following:

  1. A valid NetID@genesee.edu email address: This is typically assigned to students, faculty, and staff at Genesee Community College.
  2. Access to a computer or mobile device with an active Internet connection.
  3. Access to an Adobe Acrobat account.

Steps

  1. Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat and select the Sign-In signature field at the bottom of the document.

  2. When the Sign with a Digital ID window appears, select Configure New Digital ID and click Continue.

  3. Select the option Use a Signature Creation Device, Use a Digital ID from a file, or Create a New Digital ID, then click Continue.

  4. If you click on Use a Signature Creation Device:
    1. As Signature Creation Devices are not supplied for accounts, the “Learn More” link will take you to Adobe Approved Trust List Members, Acrobat | Adobe Acrobat about trusted partners of Adobe Acrobat to purchase from.

  5. If you click on Use a Digital ID from a file:
    1. A prompt will appear on the screen to browse for a Digital ID file, opening File Explorer:

    2. After typing in your password for the Digital ID, if the password is correct, the signature will then display in the signature field.

  6. If you click on Configure New Digital ID: 
    1. Please select the Save to File option instead of Save to Windows Certificate Store, as this is only for Adobe Acrobat.

    2. Enter the requested information, including your full name, organizational unit/department, organization name, and work email address.

    3. Create a strong password to protect your Digital ID. Make sure you remember this password, as it will be required when using the digital signature.
    4. Your newly created Digital ID will be available to sign the document as an option to choose. On the "Standard Text" drop-down list, you can change the appearance of the font as necessary.

  7. The new signature will then be placed in the Signature field:

Additional Notes

  1. A new Digital ID may need to be created when moving to a new device
  2. Save the Digital ID file in a secure, cloud-based system so it can be used again when signing electronic documents
